this is 1/2 star but I didn't know how to create a lower ranking. to list my cert background in order, security+, ceh, project+, cissp, cisa. all tests were pass on first attempt. that being said, THIS IS MORE THAN LIKELY THE WORST BOOK I'VE EVER USED FOR A TEST. I actually did not even finish reading it because it was so bad. the authors BABBLE just to add pages to the book on items that would great if I was doing the pmp but ARE NOT PART OF THE CISA. take a look at the authors certs and you'll notice 2 of them have pass the pmp. that's great but the rambling to cover up the fact their book does not cover items on the test wasted hours of my life. thankfully I had enough background on security and auditing to figure that fact out early on my preparations. even with my other materials, I opened my test and said what is this?!?!?? I passed my cissp by completing the 200 questions in 4 1/2 hrs which included 2 10 min napes and a 15 min walk as well as triple checking all my answers. bottom line, cisa is vastly different and my material is going to be isaca's books as opposed to items I can buy elsewhere. anyone who says this book was great and helped them pass, was their only means of studying or the such is doing 1 of 2 things: lying like a cheap rug or had the background already to pass. hope this saves someone from wasting time and/or money on this book or something else the authors write. they may be very intelligent but between the babbling and the editors, I wouldn't use this book to wipe

Passed the June 2010 exam with the help of this book!

Used this book based on a co-worker recommendation. No, this was not the only thing used; I also used ISACA's test bank to successfully get past this exam - after several attempts. Previously, I attended a study group and went through ISACA's online review course and still failed!
The hardest part about passing the CISA is understanding the context of the questions being asked. That being said, this study guide was very helpful in explaining every domain in enough detail to make the basic concepts much easier to digest. The bonus test bank wasn't even needed.

I used this in combination with the Official questions and answers book. Passed the exam with a fair margin. If you do not have an IT audit background, I would not try to "test first".

I took the CISA assessment on ISACA's website mid-summer and got a 64% - I needed help. So, I read the online reviews for this book and other books, and I felt this book would be a good fit for me, because it would be an easy read - not packed with endless, bloated technical detail. Too much "extra" info jammed into a study guide will only force you to memorize too much - more is not better in this case. I read all the chapters except the networking chapter - it appears to be only a very small part of the exam. While reading the chapters; I took notes, I drew pictures, I created mnemonics... I did the questions at the end of each chapter. The night before the 12/12/09 test date, I didn't crack open the book - I just reviewed my notes. I took the exam and passed with flying colors. My total true studying time was 2 months - 60 hours total while leaving some weekends open to goof. Now, I wouldn't advise this approach unless you have a little IT and audit work experience under your belt, which I do. Overall, the book helped in getting me prepared for the exam - it shored up some weak areas for me. Honestly, I would recommend this book. However, I would ALSO recommend that you put in more hours than I did in studying and ALWAYS do more questions.

The title of the review says it all. I am on a budget, and after reading lots of reviews on study guides, I selected this one. I made the most of this book. I read it completely through and followed the author's advice on which sections to re-review based on my background. I did the questions at the end of each chapter and I did every test question on the included CD. I was thorough, and sometimes it was thoroughly boring, but I was rewarded for the effort because the way the exam questions are worded it can be difficult to learn how to select the appropriate answer - I don't say "correct" answer because my extensive experience tells me that a few answers were incorrect. No doubt some questions and answers were selected by people in ISACA who understandably have a different way of describing issues outside their area of expertise. I learned to answer questions the ISACA way because my goal was to pass the exam.
I also reviewed the ISACA Audit Standards, Guidelines, and Procedures before the exam.
Caveat: I have broad experience in products & software engineering. There were very few topics in the book (maybe just one) I did not have at least a passing familiarity with, so YMMV.
