Just like the Bible...

I'm all green with 3ds and this book is just like it's name: a Bible. Which means that you won't get much practical tips in there, on your way upp (.. or out!?) but in the other hand, you'll find the information you need when you go back to it and know what you're looking for. Then, it will certainly be a useful source.
Another problem to be mentioned is the bad habit concerning most US productions: "write as much as you can, make it as big as you can". Why!?
Well.. indeed, this is called "the Bible", so in this specific case, there may be a meaning. In most other cases, it actually takes more place that it deserves. So finally, this book is certainly a (very) good one, but not really for the rookies.

It has just about EVERYTHING. If you are like me and don't have the time to take another class on the subject and/or just want something for both referencing and detailed info this is it. I've bought several other books for 3D modeling but this is the only one I still use.
Perfect for those who know what they're doing to polish up on techniques and improvements to previous versions as well as complete beginners. The tutorials and images in the book give the reader step by step instructions.
All in all if you are serious enough to invest in 3ds Max 9 in the first place then this book is exactly what you need. Most of the others just help with conceptual work, not particularly useful if you already know what you want to do, this book WILL help you.

The Max Bible serves as a solid resource for anyone new to the program. The information is relatively complete and the explantions make sense. If you're looking to buy one book, and you're a newbie, this would be a good choice.
